Immediate question start for audio and video questions

I saw that the timer doesn´t start for the student until they play the audio question I uploaded. Please create a way to start recording students immediately upon entry to the question.

This is something we've thought about and mocked up but the issue with allowing teachers to specify the number of prompt plays when working with audio/video would be, how we would prevent students from sitting in a question for longer than they should before they play the prompt a 2nd, 3rd or even 4th time if specified.

With the current plan the number of replays will be based on the length of the media prompt compared to the length of the Review Time. For example, if the media prompt was 30 seconds and the review time was 2 minutes, that would allow students to replay the prompt up to 4 times before the response begins.

Your suggestion is on our radar and something we plan to revisit in future iterations of Extempore.

That will definitely solve the issue, in a more effective way! Thank you!

Will there be any settings where you could "Replay the prompt" a specific number of times? This can be solved just editing the audio in audacity prior to uploading it, but I'm not sure how that would be done so easily with a video.

It would be very helpful if a parameter could be set to limit how many students could replay it.

Thanks for clarifying, Paul. In the next week we will be adding the ability for teachers to determine if students can "Replay the prompt" and with that implementation the media prompt controls will always be locked the first time students play the prompt.

    For example:

    • If "Replay Prompt" is yes students won't be able to pause or rewind until after the media finishes playing the first time.

      1. Student plays prompt

      2. Prompt controls are disabled

      3. Prompt ends

      4. Review time starts

      5. Prompt controls enabled to allow students to replay within the review time

    • If "Replay Prompt" is no students will never be able to replay the prompt, pause, or rewind.

      1. Student plays prompt

      2. Prompt controls are disabled

      3. Prompt ends

      4. Review time starts

      5. Prompt controls remain disabled

I believe this should help solve your request as well as cater to other use cases we've received for our timers. Please let me know if you feel we are missing something with the implementation of this new feature.

Starting the review timer right away, because the way it currently works is that students can play an audio and pause it/rewind it as much as they want until the media plays all the way to the end - then the timer begins (unless I’m doing something wrong in setup!)

Is this request related to starting the recording immediately or starting the review timer immediately?

If starting the recording immediately when there's a media prompt then the media prompt would get in the way of the recording.
